Elon Musk unveils prototype high-speed LA transport tunnel

The passage is just a mile (1.6km) long right now yet the objective is a system to ease interminable traffic blockage.

Altered electric vehicles would be brought down into the passage and travel at paces up to 150mph (240km/h), Mr Musk says.

The passage has been worked by Mr Musk's Boring Company, which brags express the-craftsmanship building strategies.

The unusual and magnificent existence of Elon Musk

Mr Musk, best known as the head of Tesla electric autos and the business SpaceX program, landed at the dispatch on Tuesday in a Tesla vehicle changed to chip away at the "circle" framework.

He was cheered by a little group as he rose up out of the vehicle toward one side of the passage washed in green and blue inside lights.

In what capacity will it work?

The arrangement conceives altered vehicles being brought down into the passage organize by lifts and after that opened into tracks on the "circle".

"The significant leap forward is exceptionally basic: it's the capacity to transform an ordinary vehicle into a latently steady vehicle by including the deployable following wheels, balancing out wheels, with the goal that it can go at fast through a little passage," Mr Musk said.

"The manner in which the circle will work is you will have primary conduits that are going at 150mph and when you need to go to a leave, you will have an exit ramp," he included.

"So you can venture to every part of most by far of your adventure ceaselessly at 150mph and possibly back off when you get to your exit, and after that consequently exchange starting with one passage then onto the next. It resembles a 3D interstate framework underground essentially."

Feeling the knocks

It was very nearly a white knuckle ride. A rough two-minute adventure in a changed Model X through a solid passage with a blue neon light in the roof. We achieved a speed of 49mph, in spite of the fact that vehicles will inevitably make a trip at up to 150mph.

Elon Musk later clarified that the roughness was because of issues with a clearing machine and that it would be "as smooth as glass" in the end. The vehicle was adjusted by adding two arrangement wheels to keep it stable at high speeds and keep it from hitting the side of the passage.

Mr Musk said the $200-$300 connections could in the end be settled to any completely independent electric vehicle, for use in the passage. They would not meddle with the vehicle's ordinary activity.

"We utilized Tesla vehicles since I run Tesla. What I am will do? Use another person's vehicle?" he asked, grinning.

Traffic arrangement?

Alana Semuels, of The Atlantic, told the BBC World Service that Mr Musk still couldn't seem to divulge the innovation that would enable vehicles to go at such high speeds through the framework.

"At first he said we're going have these passages and transport individuals in units, presently he's expression we will transport them in vehicles, so I don't know even he knows how it functions," she said.

lighten Los Angeles' "spirit devastating" traffic clog.

On Tuesday he said his Boring Company had constructed the passage section for $10m (£8m), including that conventional passage building innovation would have cost up to $1bn.

The passage keeps running underneath the district of Hawthorne, where the Boring Company and SpaceX are both based.
